My Story
Hi! My name is Andrea Turlik and I am a Certified Nutrition Coach through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Since having my daughter in 2012, my weight has been up and down, but I was having a hard time being consistent in my approach to balanced eating and taking care of myself well. As I’ve approached age 40, I was seeking a lifestyle that would have me stewarding the body God has blessed me with in a positive and sustainable way.
I was not seeking to cut out particular food groups, eat bland and boring food, or go overboard on exercise. I wanted my life to be firmly planted on the Lord’s foundation and from there take steps to grow healthier habits and ways of life.
Over the course of 9 months, I lost 13% of my body weight. I did this slowly by tracking my food in an app (MyFitnessPal) and aiming for a deficit targeting ½ pound of weight loss per week. By taking a slow and steady approach, it helped me to keep off the weight and not require a lot of big changes all at once.
In the middle of my weight loss journey, I felt the Lord nudging me toward becoming a nutrition coach. After a lot of research, I decided to take the Certified Nutrition Coach course at NASM and now would love to share what I have learned with you.My philosophy in nutrition coaching is to keep God first as our foundation. He is our Creator and has blessed us all with unique, beautiful lives to serve Him and those around us. Next, my approach is to make slow, sustainable progress – taking small steps that continue to build into something much larger. Tracking food intake is key as we can truly see our overall intake and the deficit needed that can lead to weight-loss. I will work with you to build accountability and habits that will help you in accomplishing your goals.
I don’t believe in cutting out certain food groups or things you love but feel aren’t “healthy.” Of course, there are plenty of diets and fads that promise quick results; however, many times these routes aren’t sustainable. By focusing on portion-control and tracking intake, it can be easier to recognize how much food you actually need to stay full and satisfied, and see the results you are seeking.
